The CrossFit Open is an annual worldwide competition over the course of 5 weeks. We’ve done it here every year since 2011. The Open workouts are designed so everyone can complete them. CrossFit has even added in a scaled division so everyone can compete. It’s not all about trying to qualify for regionals, though we definitely have some people who will be working towards that goal. The goal for most of you will be to have fun.

This year we are going to do something a little different.

At CrossFit Wilmington we want to push you to become better. Do things you’ve never done before. Participating in a worldwide competition is a great way to do that. It’ll push you to train harder and go faster come game day!

We’ll do this all in house, to keep it light and fun. No pressure, no nightmares about competing, just good ol’ fashioned fun.

This year we’re going to have 4 intramural teams competing at CrossFit Wilmington, and you’re going to be on one!

Your team captains are as follows

We selected these 4 because they are very active here at the gym. They’re dedicated to training, and most importantly they are FUN. That’s what we want this to be about, having fun!


You can register for the CrossFit Open at and select CrossFit Wilmington as your affiliate and team. You’re by no means required to sign up online. We are able to do this all in house, but you will get bonus points for signing up online.

Team Selection

Starting today, the team captains will begin to recruit you for their teams. Kimmy and Tanner do reserve the right to reshuffle teams so that one team is not a powerhouse, superstar team. Though most points will be given for participation, not necessarily performance. See how we’re scoring below.


+1 Point – Attendance: every member of a team that completes an Open workout at CFW each week earns one point. Maximum one point per athlete per workout.

+1 Point – Signing up online: for every team member that signs up at and joins the CrossFit Wilmington affiliate, your team will receive 1 bonus point.

+1 Point – Top 3: every male and female member who places among the Top 3 at the gym for each workout gets an extra point for their team.

+5 Points (team) – Spirit: The team with the most pride, presence, noise, team spirit each week gets these points.

+10  Points (individual) – Spirit of the Open – the person who most embodies the CFW spirit over the course of the 5 week open gets 10 points for their team.

The Workouts

We’ll be doing the workouts in class all day on Fridays as well as at 7pm on Friday nights as a part of our Friday Night Lights series from Feb 26 – March 25. We’ll also be programming the workouts on Saturdays as well.

Above all we want you to have fun. We want you to participate because you’ll be fitter, you’ll complete something you’ve never done, and have a lot of fun while doing it! Also, nothing beats getting  a bunch of people all together in the gym on a Friday night. Packed houses will make you work even harder!
