Finding a balance in life is one of the hardest aspects of fitness. Fitness not only encompasses your physical state that you train in the gym, but also your mental  fitness too.

Our goal at CrossFit Wilmington is to improve your life and your outlook. We want you to be happier, healthier, and better off than you were before you started with us. And we want you to stay that way! Stress is an aspect of mental fitness that we want to address. Excess mental stress is bad for you body. It increases markers of inflammation, and can cause you to store more fat and generally be more unhealthy. Less fit.

Your workout should not stress you out. Let me say that again, your workout should not stress you out.

If your workout gives you knots in your stomach, or you spend the whole day dreading coming into the gym, something is wrong. You should enjoy working out. Yes, it’s hard work, and sometimes really difficult, but it shouldn’t be something you are afraid of.

Likewise, I don’t find it healthy to structure your whole life around being a gym rat. It’s easy to lose perspective, especially if our social media feed is full of CrossFit and lifting, but the gym is just a tool to make you a better, healthier person, not the end goal.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m am a huge proponent of training hard and having goals, but please don’t do it at the expense of everything else in your world. It’s ok to take a day off, or take a vacation. CrossFit Wilmington will still be here when you get back – we’re not going anywhere.

So find a balance between only focusing on training, and dreading it. It’s ok to be nervous about a new workout, but don’t let it ruin your day. Train hard and have fun!
