Andrew G. jumped at the chance to train with the CFW CrossFit Games team on Saturday… not knowing what he was getting into.  Even after the clock rolled over the 60 minute mark he was still smiling!  Kudos to Andrew for hammering down all the way and not quitting (no one would have blamed him! ha).  The workouts to which the team are subjected, like the one on Saturday, can be brutal.

Choose and complete one of the following for time…
1.)  5 Clean and Jerk (275lbs/185lbs)
2.)  10 Clean and Jerk (225lbs/155lbs)
3.)  14 Clean and Jerk (185lbs/135lbs)
4.)  20 Clean and Jerk (155lbs/115lbs)
5.)  32 Clean and Jerk (135lbs/95lbs)
6.)  60 Clean and Jerk (95lbs/65lbs)
7.)  100 Clean and Jerk (65lbs/45lbs)

Post your chosen poison and time.

Obviously this workout is programmed in favor of not just the more powerful lifter, but also those who have put effort into becoming a better lifter.  It also discourages the stronger lifter, with a disproportional amounts of reps,  to sandbag and go with a lighter load in hopes of a better time with less effort.  I.e., to do well on this workout, a lifter will have to lift the weight he/she is actually capable.

    Nice work Andrew!

Sara – I am down to do 1, 2 or 3. I can’t snatch 185 though so I am out there without scaling. Scott said he would do the 3 miles if nobody else wanted to. Can we get Felice in on Thursday for Snatches!!??!!

If team 1 is on Facebook hit me up or e-mail me so I can start a chain with everyone: albertsteed10 @ gmail . com

  2. Chrissy says:

If the committee approves, Team 9 is throwing down the gauntlet to challenge Team 4 to a one-rep max deadlift on Wednesday at 6:00pm. One man, one woman, best combined total takes the lead. Boom.

  3. t. says:

Chris… the rules say a challenging team must have 4 members present at a call out… so on Saturday Debbie actually won without even doing the workout Albert challenged her team to b/c he couldn’t rally 4 teammates.

Just revise your challenge meet that criteria.

  4. Sara Clark says:

Albert- I can do 1 or 2. I can’t do three or four, unless I scale the snatches. Felice, can you do the snatches for the team?

  5. Slater says:

Team 8 if you could send me your # via email we can get it locked down early on sata991974 at

  6. Amanda W says:

Andrew had already worked out for the day and was only a little apprehensive to jump on board. Way to go, Andrew!

  7. Albert Steed says:

Well, we had three but, we didn’t know if the other team was going to show. 😉 It is par for our course this year though.

  8. Gregg says:

Team 4 would accept the challenge, but challenges have to be done on Saturday. Since Saturday is the last WOD, then that is up to the judges if they want to allow it. I also remember seeing that challenges can only be proposed on Wednesday. Darn rules keep getting in the way of teams trying to scheme their way to the top!

  9. Chrissy says:

Gregg – I think you might be misreading Tony’s rule modification, my friend. When he said that call outs are now allowed on Wednesday, he meant that the challenge may take place on Wednesday or Saturday… not that the challenge must be presented on a Wednesday. See above, he’s down for the party. Bring your A game, we’re still scheming! 🙂

  10. Gregg says:

I stand corrected! We will take the challenge and will counter-with a Team Amanda Challenge at 6:15 on Wednesday. It will be Amanda (snatches and muscle-ups) with 2 other team members holding a 315 DL off the ground together. The other 2 team members can only work 1at a time and cannot perform exercises if the DL is on the ground.

  11. Nate says:

I wonder if team 9 is going off the numbers of the DL max we’ve already done? With all the DL strength training we’ve done in the last two weeks I bet every one’s numbers have really went up….lame

  12. Gregg says:

So far Team 4 is the only team that has been subjected to a call out for Wednesday. Your team was not called out; you were the caller-outers (yes, that is a word). Hence my above counter-challenge, well within the rules as written!

  13. Albert Steed says:

If you go to the spreadsheet and click challenges tab in have the complete rules there. I will let t speak to if you are in rules or not 🙂

  14. Debb says:

Team 3 are you guys getting this? I was almost at .a challenge by myself on Saturday and I was ready. I had Albert so intimidated.
Who is our team captain? Name four people to take on this next challenge please. It looks as though the AM people are the ones to go for it. Please let us know

  15. Chrissy says:

Fair point well made, Mr. Hoss! Let’s see what the big boss man says on the matter.

And Nate, I can’t believe you called our callout lame! We definitely weren’t going off the points from event #6. We were going off of what we thought we could kick your butts at. Booyah! Ain’t nothing lame about that! 😛

  16. t. says:

Counter call out is fair and certainly within the rules. Ready… fight.

As for call outs on Saturday, they are allowed but must be submitted by 1800 on Friday. Worse, they must be completed before the festivities begin Saturday morning at 10am.

So yeah, I’m guessing Saturday is going to be an early morning for the top few teams.
