Ashely IGrowing up, I was always bigger than all my friends but used the excuse that it was just body type. Once college started, I became more active and started calorie counting, dropping 15 or so pounds. I maintained that weight for years, but still wasn’t happy with what I saw.

In January 2013, a friend of mine convinced me to join CFW. I joined CFW with much apprehension. While I considered myself in shape, I never considered myself “Crossfit material.” In my first month of classes, I will admit I was intimidated by the heavy weights and all the athletes that worked out alongside me. I stuck with it mostly because of the patient and positive instructors, as well as the encouraging CFW members.

It took three months for me to finally decide that it was time to make a change in the meritocracy that I had settled for when it came to fitness and nutrition. I decided to participate in CFW’s Beach Body Contest, figuring it couldn’t hurt to just try. I met with Cody for a BioSignature Consultation and quickly made changes in my diet, sleep patterns, and I started taking supplements. Within the first week, I noticed a difference in my ability and endurance. I ate clean and put forth more effort during my WODs.  Eight weeks later, I was ecstatic to place third overall – among both males and females – in the competition. Prior to joining CFW I would venture to say my body fat was around 18-20%, at the beginning of the challenge my body was 14%, and currently my body fat is 10.7%.

Yes, the workouts will be hard and no, it won’t be easy — but you will see results.”[/pullquote]It wasn’t until after the challenge that I saw my results. I never thought that my body would be able to look lean or that I could wear a size 2. More importantly, I discovered that I had self-confidence in all areas of my life, not just at the gym. There is no doubt that I will continue to use the nutritional advice from Cody about eating foods that my body needs and utilizes. I went from being a calorie counter to eating as many whole foods as my body needs.Ashleigh I 2

Since the start of summer, I set several PRs and even ran a seven-minute mile, something I never thought I would be able to do.  Without a doubt, the support and positive influence from members has driven me to do more and I have the drive to continue to do more. I even see an Olympic weightlifting course in my near future.

To anyone thinking about joining CFW, I strongly recommend that you just do it. Yes, the workouts will be hard and no, it won’t be easy — but you will see results. Physical results, but more importantly mental results, will build your confidence. A special thank you to all the instructors that have taken the time to work with me, make me welcome, and continue to help me grow as an athlete.
