Emily at her new "fighting weight", doing pull ups… Beautiful.
To say that CrossFit Wilmington has touch my life would be the understatement of my life. Then to be asked to summarize it in a short paragraph, near impossible. But I will give it a try.
My first experience with CrossFit Wilmington was meeting a group of them at a well known watering hole in Lumina Station and thinking "I will NEVER look like these guys. I am too old and I’ve given birth to two kids, just not happening". I started showing up to Crossfit around May of 2008 after much convincing by my husband and CFW Primary Instructor, Josh. I hated the heat, coming in last on workouts, and only being good at lifting heaving things, so I just played with it.
In April of 2009, I decided I wanted more: more from life, more from myself, and to live longer for my children. I attended my first nutrition class by Tony and decided that I was going to jump in with both feet and take off.
Josh was a little surprised! Heck, I was surprised too. I made a point of getting 4-5 workouts in per week, rather than "maybe" 3. I started running after I got off work (I’m night shift as a nurse in the Emergency Department) and actually did my first 5k in late April (time sucked but hey, I did it). I was blessed to attend and observe the The CrossFit Games Regional Qualifier in May and decided to dig my heels in and give even more!
"I have a long way to go" was my saying (still is). I am proud to say, as of now, I have lost 34 lbs, I’m doing kipping pull-ups, and feel better than ever. I owe it to my husband, kids, CrossFit Wilmington and my CrossFit family. I can’t imagine my life without CrossFit.
The people I work with are probably sick of my talking about it, but they tell me all the time how much I’ve changed, both physically and mentally, since changing departments in October 2008. The best part, I feel better about myself, and I feel like a positive influence on my kids. I owe CrossFit Wilmington a great deal.
Tony, Julie, Darren, Dawn and my wonderful husband Josh, you guys are the best! I thank God for you everyday. I am proud to be a CrossFit Wilmington Woman!
Emily’s results are typical…
Typical of a woman that makes a conscious decision to get a hold of her life and diet. Typical in that she doesn’t care about getting sweaty and dirty. She doesn’t "need" sweets, candy, and cake. She sets aside all the excuses "cosmo" women make up for not working out and achieved what she thought wasn’t possible. Emily is a strong mother, wife (Josh will confirm!), and woman. She’s become an integral part of CrossFit Wilmington’s backbone. We love and admire her.
