Dawn and Coach Mike Burgener.

Above is the first photo I took upon our arrival at The Games site on Saturday morning…  if you want someone in your corner, Coach B. has to be your first pick!  Negotiations for Coach’s adoption of Dawn are still underway…

Yesterday’s events were tough.  Simple, but tough.

7.1km (4.4mi) Trail / Hill Run.
At the start of the run.
On the downhill of lap 2…
Rounding the corner to the finish line!
The Deadlift Event.  Starting at 185lbs, deadlift every 30 seconds adding 10lbs to the bar.
205lbs and 255lbs.
She hit 275lbs and got 285lbs off the ground but couldn’t finish it.
The Sand Bag Sprint…  with a 35lbs sandbag sprint uphill 170 meters for time.
Get up that hill!!
These pics give no justice to the grade of  the hill!
At the Finish on the Jumbotron.
Dawn did the sprint in 1:12…  7th place on this event!
Row 500 meters
Pound 3 ft stake w/ Sledge
Row 500 meters
For time…
  Cool safety glasses!
 Hammer time!
 Finished…  excellent time.
Saturday’s final WOD.
3 rounds for time of…
30 wall ball 10ft / 14lbs ball
30 snatches w/ 45lbs barbell
Pacing, form, and technique during fatique.  Dawn’s effeciency is phenomenal.
We video taped the last part of the final round of Snatches.  It’s the best way to see how much Dawn laid out.  We will post a link to it soon.

Dawn, you are a superstar! Take this wonderful experience and build on it. It can be a foundation for future successes that you can't even imagine right now…well beyond CrossFit( as if there were anything elese :))
So dust it off, tape up the tears and get back here and get to work! Your team needs you to start training for 2010 baby! Allow me to share one of my favorite gems from Michael Jordan: "I've failed over and over again in my life and that is why I SUCCEED!" you gotta be in it to win it, and you my dear are IN IT! Way to go…so proud to train beside you, and all the rest of the heroes in this amazing/inspiring crew(family).

Dawn’s a little sore today, but smiling as usual. I cannot explain how hard she pushed herself. I’ve seen her lay it out time after time in training. But what she did yesterday was a level of effort and self drive I’d not seen from her before. I had no doubt she had it in her to go harder and that she’d push herself even further. And she did just that. She did everything we’ve trained her to do. She paced the events well, maintained form, and displayed the discipline of a very mature athlete. I feel like I should remind everyone that she’s only been doing CrossFit or any lifing for that matter, for a year and a half. Some of the ladies she’s competing against have been at this for years and are at the Games for a third time!

I am proud and honored to be one of coaches. I am humbled by her performance. Dawn is no doubt one of the toughest females on the planet.

  9. Dawn says:

Thank you all so much for your comments and your support. Yesterday was tough, but I performed better than I anticipated. I was just happy to be done with that UGLY HELL OF A TRAIL, ROCK CLIMBING, LAND SLIDE OF A HILL. The pictures really don't give that hill any justice. It sucked and I don't want to run for a while. This was an amazing experience, I wouldn't have been able to do it without my Crossfit Family!!!

I know I speak for everybody: Dawn, I can't wait till you get back here and we can give you a big hug and tell you how proud we are of you!!!! I hope you know its going to take a little while after you get back to stop retelling us the same stories over and over…but you know we ALL want to hear them. So get your photos together and I can't wait to hear your recap of that crazy and wonderful experience! Good job, you proved to be the driving force we knew you would be, the best rep CFW could ever send to show the rest of the comunity what we have out here in the Carolinas!!
