Level 1 Instructor
My name is Melissa Hoff and I am one of the many instructors at CrossFit Wilmington. I graduated from the University of North Carolina Greensboro with a double major in Biology and Classical Civilization and a minor in Chemistry. After graduating, I worked for a major Fortune 500 chemical company as a Microbiologist. With this position, I transferred to Research and Development Headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota. There, I worked hard to not freeze to death and started a Masters program at the University of Minnesota. After deciding corporate life was not for me, I returned to North Carolina to thaw out and attend dental school at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Dentistry.
Things I enjoy are reading, scanning through pinterest to find great ideas that will never come to fruition, cuddling with my adorable dog, and dancing to 90′s hip hop. I also enjoy hiking and climbing 14ers with my friends in Colorado.
I was one of the original members of CFW in 2008 took a brief break and returned in early 2010. During this break, I pursued figure competitions and long distance cycling and running. When I came back to reality and realized how hard dieting and endurance training is on your body, I decided to try CrossFit again. I wanted to train smarter not harder.
Becoming a CrossFit Instructor seemed like the next logical step. I did not feel comfortable helping others with their training and critiquing their movements without the proper certification. I became certified as a CrossFit trainer in January 2013.
In addition to CrossFit Certified Instructor, I am also a Biosignature Practitioner. I attended the course presented by Charles Poliquin held in Phoenix, March 2013.
