Dillon Paulus

Level 1 Instructor

My name is Dillon Paulus and I am an eight year veteran of the US Marine Corps with 3 combat tours to both Iraq and Afghanistan. My occupational specialty in the Marine Corps was Explosive Ordnance Disposal (aka Bomb Squad) and it was during that time that I initially became involved with CrossFit. The functional fitness aspect of CrossFit was vital to the requirements of my military career and, because the benefits were so great, I routinely recruited new people to work out with me. It was around this time that people began to see my performance gains and began to ask me for advice on how they too could achieve a high level of fitness. After the first time attempting to explain CrossFit, I quickly realized  I did not know proper form and technique thus, prompting me to attend the CrossFit Level 1 certification.

Upon conclusion of my military career I enrolled at UNCW where I currently study Computer Science and Engineering and, although, I do not need CrossFit to fulfill my duties anymore my passion still lies with training people and living a healthy lifestyle. I initially arrived at CFW though my wife (she began attending classes at CFW while I was on my last combat tour) and I was invited to train clients there shortly after I started. Since that time I have attended power lifting seminars, POSE running clinics, nutrition courses, and I am a student of organic backyard gardening and nightly home cooking. I do not compete anymore, but I possess a love for coaching people and it is through CFW that I fulfill this passion and change the world.

CFW is an amazing gym; the level of athletes, experience, and all around community are without equal. CrossFit in itself is known for being difficult and elite, and this non-debatable in our gym, but it is not unachievable (see our success stories page). To succeed one must come to CFW with the initial drive to change their life, this we cannot give you, but once you are here our staff and I will teach, work, coach, and encourage you to be the best that you can be. For some this may be their first pull up. For others it may be a 500lbs dead lift. But one thing you can be sure of, and that I love about CFW, is that you will never find your limit. This I promise you, because every time you set a new personal record (PR) you will break it, or more typically, shatter it within a year.

My vow as a trainer to you, the client, is to continually improve, not only my knowledge, but the skill at which I can perform the methodology that I teach. I am currently an avid cycler, swimmer, surfer, yoga practitioner, and CrossFitter and I invite each and every person reading this to join me on anything, especially if you have never done it before. I love to teach, I love to exercise, I love CFW for making me stronger and faster than I ever have been before, and I look forward to showing you a life style that you will be proud to live.
