I wanted to take a second and tell you all about a few new things we are putting in the supplement case. I’m excited about a few of the changes in the supplement world… changes due in great part because of CrossFit.
CrossFit is taking the athletic world and human work output to an entirely new level. Since its popularity began to boom in 2006, I’ve seen the nutrition and supplement side of things trying to play catch up with the needs of an athlete who is trying to be strong, fast, power and all the while sustain exceptional stamina.
In 2007 I introduced Wilmington and many in the CrossFit community to the Paleo diet and eating healthy. At that time most folks thought eating for performance meant 400 grams of protein a day, a “thermogenic”, and/or eating sweet potatoes for carbs according to whether they were into strength or endurance sports. Since, we have learned to tweak the Paleo Diet and clean it up even further to better suit the high performance athlete. That was actually pretty easy.
The supplement side of things was not as simple. Many supplements that help develop strength do not support other energy systems and, in some cases, inhibit them. But just like my approach to nutrition, my supplement protocols always begin with making the athlete as healthy as possible and address recovery thoroughly. Becoming a BioSignature Practitioner helped tremendously. The folks at Poliquin Group are light years ahead than anyone on performance supplementation and they are only getting better. I’ve taken what I’ve learned from Poliquin Group, and many other coaches, and applied them to CrossFit and concurrent training… and it is only getting better.
I am constantly looking for better answers on how to help you reach your goals. I take great pride in only selling products I trust to be the highest quality and be void of the fillers and crap found in most supplements. We just stocked our cases with a few new products that will make supplementing more effective and easier. We still have the trusted Mg, Zn, and Vitamin D you are all used to, but we now have a new EPA/DHA (fish oil) product, topical Magnesium, children’s DHA, and UCAN… a new carbohydrate that does not cause an insulin spike.
Our new choice in EPA/DHA (fish oil) Opti EFA 2.0, is more pure and comes in a more cost effective package than other high end fish oils. It comes in 1,000mg servings (2 caps) and so is easier to tally up how many grams you are taking in a dose.
We are excited about the new topical Magnesium. Topical Mg Sulfate, taken with oral Mg, corrects deficiencies faster than oral alone and allows us to avoid the diarrhea many can experience with high dosages of oral Mg needed to fix our deficiencies. But one the more interesting things about topical Mg is it reduces local inflammation. Applying it directly to an injury can help speed healing. Have your massage therapist add it to their oil and you will be in recovery heaven. Another good thing about topical Mg is it is easy to administer making it ideal for children. Many parents ask about Mg and DHA for their kids… topical Mg is the answer.
On that we decided to provide you parents with a Poliquin quality fish oil supplement for your children. It is well known children need more DHA than EPA since it aids in brain and cognitive development. Adult fish oil products have more EPA than DHA since we tend to need more anti-inflammation for our bodies. We now have Poliquin DHA Power Chewables for the kids.
