There are four things every nutritionist, dietician, or other health practicioner recommends. They are EFAs (fish oil), Vitamin D3, Magnesium, and Zinc. I call them the “Core 4”. If you want optimum fitness, you need optimum health. Optimum health comes from your diet.
I preach and preach magnesium supplementation… so it can be frustrating 10 out of 10 people who ask me questions about weight loss, health, recovery and sleep issues are not taking Mg. I find it even more odd when they ask me “do you really think I should be taking it?“. It is as if they really think they are so unique their issues are different from everyone else.
Every person I know who has had their Mg RBC tested has come back extremely deficient. Most them were Paleo diet eaters… so generally they were people who care about their health. How many people do you know that have one or more of these signs and symptoms? How many of them eat well? How many have ever had their Mg RBC tested. I’m guessing you know a few and you answered zero to the other questions. So how many supplement Mg… exactly. None.
Can it really be that simple? Yes. So why doesn’t your doctor tell you this stuff? MDs do not do nutrition, they do medicine. If you go to your Doctor and tell him / her you cannot sleep, they will Rx you a sleep aid like Ambien. The next time you see your MD ask him/her for an Ambien levels test so you can derive is you are deficient in Ambien and he or she will most likely look at you like you are a fool. But that same MD will Rx you a drug that does nothing for what is causing the insomnia, only puts you to sleep. A miserable sleep… Ambien and other medicinal sleep aids ruin lives.
