This CrossFit Wilmington 2013 Team is brand new and just passed its first real test. This team, with only Amanda Welliver and Cody Lambert with previous years’ experience, just finished showing the Mid-Atlantic Region that CFW can build a brand new, untested team and walk them right up on the podium next to teams that have competed together for years.
A lot goes into competing at the Games and being good at it takes a bit more. It isn’t just training or programming. It is part dedication, part sacrifice and requires a mindset that does not accept mediocrity. From day one, candidates for our team are told what it takes to represent CrossFit Wilmington on the national stage. Not everyone can can do it. It takes a mature, level headed and obviously, physically gifted athlete to handle the stresses and pressures training puts on their lives.
Being named Team Leader of the CFW is not a picnic. But like Caleb and Tanner before him, Cody, no sh*t, really stepped up to the plate and led this crew to a third place, qualifying finish. Not only is training and coordinating training for twelve athletes (before we chose the eight final members) a ton of work, the CFW team leader has me scrutinizing every move they make. At this point, there’s no doubt in my mind Cody is pretty tired of hearing me ask “what’cha gonna do TL?”. Cody had a larger role as TL than I’ve given any other. He wrote quite a bit of the programming, had a huge say in the team members we selected to compete, and also who did what workout at the competition. Fine job on Cody’s part.
The remainder of the team made Cody’s job as easy as it can possibly get. Each performed exactly how we trained. They are what we are known for, strong, friendly, and professional… a reputation I am very proud, and protective, of.
I can’t say in any more words how proud I am of the CrossFit Wilmington 2013 Competition Team.
Thank you to everyone that supported the CFW Team’s efforts. Custom Fit Meals’ sponsorship of the team kept the team fed. Largo, MD is a horrible city… there’s nothing to eat that is even close to healthy. Custom Fit kept the team fed and fueled on clean foods.
Another huge thank you to everyone that supported donated and supported the fundraiser. Those funds made the trip possible.
Daniel Moorehouse spent his entire weekend working his butt off keeping the team mobile. His taping and fascial release work aided the team in every workout. Meagan was right there too. They provided support that undoubtedly increased the health, and therefore the overall placing, of the team.
I also want to the thank the significant others and the families of my team. They are the first line of support. They too must deal with all the training hours and work that goes into training for the Games. By proxy the cut out carbs, get up early, and give up ten months of weekends. This team cannot be successful without its direct support. Thank you again.
I also want to thank the team’s alternates. Danny and Hoff are two of CFW’s fastest and strongest. It isn’t easy to sit and watch the team. They displayed maturity and professionalism when Cody and I had to make the hard decision that they were not the best suited for the workouts at this competition. They supported their team throughout the weekend and are anxiously awaiting the Games to announce the workouts we’ll have to do in Cali.
