Sleep Better Tonight

By t. | In Articles, Nutrition | on October 30, 2012

I talk about sleep almost as much as I do nutrition and intelligent programming.  Quality sleep is a must if you want to be healthy, fit, and lean.  Going without quality sleep lowers Growth Hormone, Thyroid Hormone, and Testosterone.  Just as bad, it increases cortisol and insulin resistance.  If the aforementioned are low / high respectively your health will suffer and you will gain fat.  In past articles I have touched on my sleep issues that stemmed from injuries to my noggin back in 2008.  I learned this stuff the hard way.  I used powerful sleep meds (like Ambien and others) until I realized they were not only very harmful, but I was doing dumb things before falling asleep and not remembering them.

In the past few months I tweaked my typical sleep protocol and have now dialed it in pretty well.  I like it enough to share.  Zen Mag (Mg Threonate) and Tryptophan replaced UberMag Plus (a combo of Mags and tryptophan).

As with any supplement recommendation, I always start with the five.  You need to replenish your deficiencies of Omega 3s, Vitamin D, Zinc, and Magnesium before you can expect any additional protocol to reach its optimal effectiveness.

**DO NOT TAKE TRYPTOPHAN IF YOU ARE TAKING AN SSRI DRUG and NEVER CEASE A MEDICATION WITHOUT DISCUSSING IT WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN**

For better sleep take these at or 30 minutes before bedtime.
Zen Mag  3-4 caps
L-tryptophan (I use Vitamin Shoppe’s brand)  1,000-3,000mg
 Sweet Dreams 1.0  2-4 caps
Taurine  2-3 grams

We place supplement orders each week on Monday at noon.  If you would like to order these, or other supplements, please contact Cody  before Monday morning each week.
