Saying goodbye to The Skull

By Josh | In Today's Workout | on October 20, 2012

For the last three years our Crossfit Wilmington Skull Mural has served as the visual center piece to our facility. The Skull painting was inspired and painted initially by CFW Instructor Taylor Ross. During the summer of 2010 the Skull was turned into a massive work of art by Taylor and local tattoo artist Josh Payne. The mural has been commissioned for a K-Swiss shoe commercial featuring comedian Kenny Power’s and MMA Champion Urijah Faber and photographed thousands of times by many crossfitters from around the world. One of the questions we’ve been asked the most about the move was “What about the Skull?”. Even though we can not take the wall with us, we will never forget about the Skull!

A piece of art that is. A very inspiring piece. We listen to music for motivation, we can use art the same way. Taylor created that because she was moved by the energy and comraderie she found in that building. I was always proud to see that looming mural. I’ll miss it.

I think Ellen developed her love of skulls from all those hours spent staring at that awesome artwork while strapped in her car seat. Too bad it can’t be moved along with everything else to the new place! Great memories, and great people!! Congratulations!!
